Older Boy Baseball

GYAA OLDER BOYS BASEBALL   (Ages 13-19)

DIXIE Boys Baseball and DIXIE Majors Baseball is a continuing recreational baseball program from DIXIE Youth Baseball that is provided through Goochland Youth Athletic Association for ages 13-19 years old.

PROGRAMS OFFERED

Dixie Boys Baseball – Ages 13 -14

Dixie Pre Majors Baseball – Ages 15 – 17

Majors Baseball – Ages 18-19 (15 -19 eligibility)

DIXIE Boys Baseball is primarily a youth baseball program for boys ages (13 -14) that play on a medium sized diamond to meet the physical development of the growing boys. The main purpose of the program is to provide a recreation outlet and a continuation of skills development.

DIXIE Majors and Pre Majors Baseball is a baseball program for boys 15 to 19 years of age who play on a regulation sized field. GYAA has divided the ages of 15 -17 into the Pre Majors program and the ages 18-19 into the Majors program. All ages 15-19 based on ability and skill level are eligible to play in the Majors program.

SEASON

The season will generally start with practices in May and is mainly based around the area schools baseball schedules. Many of the players that are involved in the Dixie Program are involved in school baseball programs.  College, Varsity, JV and middle school players make up a portion of the DIXIE teams in many of the districts and therefore they wait until the school season has  finished to start the DIXIE baseball program. The baseball season runs through the spring into summer with majority of games played in June and tournaments in July.

PRACTICES

Practices will be held at the upper field at the Goochland Sports Complex.  Occasionally practices are held at Hidden Rock Park.  The times and days will be at the discretion of the managing coach and based on field availability.  Practice times may vary and are at the discretion of the managing coach. It is not uncommon to practice for 3 hours on a weekend day or for 2 hours on a week night and in combination.

GAMES

At this age level of play team numbers are smaller than that of the youth recreational teams and travel is required for some games.  We are in the Virginia Dixie Baseball League, District 3, which includes the counties of Cumberland, Buckingham, Amelia and Goochland. All of our home games are played at the upper baseball field at the Goochland Sports Complex. Occasionally we will schedule a few games with travel baseball teams and teams outside of our district but we try very hard not to have travel distances any further than those distances of our normal district games.
